Caro Krebietke présente The last dance :
« The world has a narrow and rapidly closing window to ward off catastrophe caused by climate change, a long-awaited UN report has said.
In the five scenarios put forward by experts, the target of limiting the global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels would be breached in the 2030s.
Already, temperatures have soared by about 1.1°C since the 1850-1900 period. The study says it is already too late to head off some of the effects of global warming, such as melting ice sheets and rising sea levels.
The kinetic installation „The Last Dance“ is inspired by the idea of moving advertising pillars. Five main reasons for climate change are written in huge letters. They are spinning around like dancing giants in a claustrophobic setting, illuminated and visible to everyone who wants to take a look at them.
Being an artist-in-residence in Strasbourg means to have access to the studio „Bureau Théorie“ at the HEAR university. This small space is like a showroom. A glass front allows the public to watch everything inside. An ideal setting for this kinetic installation, like a fishtank, where people can look at sharks or piranhas without being in any danger.
Increasing global warming might be, as the UN report warns, „code red for humanity“. I see „The Last Dance“ as a comment to COP 26 in Glasgow. With full awareness of being totally powerless to make any significant changes through art. »
Barbara Gryka présente Alicja, Alicja :
« In my project in Strasbourg, I go back to the political situation that was announced in Poland last year – a total ban on abortion.
On 15 January 2003, Alicja Tysiąc filed a complaint against the Republic of Poland to the European Court of Human Rights – she was forced to give birth to her child despite the threat of total loss of sight.
I made glasses inspired by the European Court of Human Rights architecture, I wore a suit on my head, I put on a duck cap – I chose it because when I was going to Strasbourg my grandmother gave me duck eggs, I decided to protect them during the journey, ate them while keeping the eggshells – decorative ornaments from Poland.
The poetry in the video is the work of my friend Sara Akram- a poet from Poland. »
Sylvia Pasztor présente BIRD GAME :
« The aim of my project was to develop and implement a short one animated films with the preliminary working title BIRD GAME. Using the collected drawing material on site, I liked to write the script and storyboard and develop artistically. In terms of content, the creature storks, chicken and other birds are presented. In the first part of the work, I used a sketchbook to become a drawing do on-site research. As a typical representative of its kind, the stork lives as a bird in this area. Since this creature is a wandering bird, which for this reason is not necessarily to be found in winter and autumn, I also observed and drew other bird species. A suitable place for drawing was, for example, the zoo l`Orangerie in Strasbourg. I used the collected drawing material as an essential basis for the storyboard. Based on the pictures I drew narrative picture strands and write the script based on them. For the length of the planned animated films are planned for less than ten minutes. »
Produced as part of the resident artists placement of the city of Strasbourg and with the support of HEAR and the city of Stuttgart.
